This is our best selling Fodera model ever.
Few basses can be called true classics, but this is one of them.
From their shop in Brooklyn, New York, Vinnie Fodera and Joey Lauricella have been making some of the best basses in the world for the last 40 years. When they started as a brand back in 1983 Joey spotted a young bassist with an amazing technique and musicianship that was in need of a better instrument. They saw Vic's potential and decided to loan him a bass that he could pay little by little. That instrument became Victor's tool to develop his amazing technique, and he has been using it extensively for the last 30 years (and still uses it).
The bass you see here is the Victor Wooten '83 Classic, because it is made exactly like the original (except no Kahler tremolo). In this case we ordered it with an amazing curly walnut top that sets it apart from any other VW Classic we've ever seen,
The instrument has a set neck with Fodera's trademark heel-less body joint. This gives the bass a perfect mix of sustain and attack, both of which are needed to get Victor's tone (his fingers do not come included though!!).
The mahogany body has a beautiful curly walnut top, and the 3 piece rock maple neck comes with an impressive piece of Indian rosewood for the fingerboard.
Electronics are active EMG P/J set plus the new and improved Pope 3 band preamp with added Passive Tone and Mute (On-Off) plus Active/Passive switches.
This is one of these cases where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. The VW Classic might be the easiest to play bass in the market today, and the tone is absolutely amazing: deep but clear lows, warm midrange and sweet treble. The notes just seem to jump out of the fingerboard. Play any Victor Wooten line and you'll be in heaven.
What's amazing is that if you are not into active pickups and don't care about tapping or slapping, this bass is just about perfect for any other style be it hard rock or trad jazz. The dynamic range is simply awesome. You can go to whisper-like playing to really heavy hitting, and the bass will just reproduce that perfectly. This is not a bass you have to fight against; quite the opposite: it seems to play for you. Now, that's inspiring!
You can actually use any playing technique you can think of and the bass will respond effortlessly time after time.
We always say that a better bass won't make you a better player in 5 minutes, but actually when you own a bass that's so easy to play, rewarding and inspiring, you end up practicing more than ever, and that really makes you a better player.
To sum up: a bass for a lifetime.
