Fodera guitars make only high end basses from their shop in Bkrooklyn, NY. The level of customization they offer is impressive but they are aware that many customers don't need too many extras and would rather save some money. That's the whole idea with the Standard Series. These basses are made by the same people at the same place than the rest of Fodera basses but are closed spec instruments, meaning Fodera can build them in batches, optimizing the use of tools and materials.
This is the Emperor Standard model and we can safely say it is the most versatile model within their lineup. It has been designed to be a true workhorse for the touring bassist who needs a lot of different sounds, including those trademark tones from the 60's and 70's as well as modern tones.
This model in particular is a Special Edition Instrument and it has these really cool features:
3 piece body (swamp ash-walnut-swamp ash)
Ash neck (we love the feel of this one)
Gorgeous dark Walnut top
Fodera chose a 3 piece swamp ash/walnut body with a bolt on maple neck (with ebony fretboard) to ensure a lot of attack and we can honestly say that all the notes just ring out beautifully in this bass. Of course, if you prefer warmer tones these are also easy to pull out of the instrument by tweaking the controls.
The new Hipshot bridge ensures stability and maximum resonance.
Fodera/Duncan Dual coils have been chosen for their excellent sound and versatility. They sound and perform like true single coils in that mode (amazing 70's punch, especally considering this a 24 fret-5 string bass) while offering a more compact sound in humbucking mode, perfect for soloing with the bridge pickup.
The sound in passive is to die for (really warm and vintage sounding), but the Mike Pope preamp adds a lot of possibilities with zero noise, a lot of headroom and ultra musical sound.
The low B is just perfect in volume and definition, and this comes from a 34" bass.
This might well be the last bass you will need. Test it and you will check that this bold statement is true.
