We add Fugijen (FGN) basses to our permanent stock. We are impressed.
This is an excellent bass that's made in Japan and comes with made in Japan parts but with an incredibly low price tag. It's a steal, honestly.
The model is called BMJ-R and it is a Jazz Bass style instrument (no surprises here). The amazing part is that it costs the same as many basses that are made in China or Indonesia. Amazing value for money.
Basswood body, maple neck, rosewood fingerboard with 22 perfectly seated and polished frets. 34" scale, 38mm nut, etc., meaning you get an instant feel of comfort.
Two made in Japan Single Coil pickups deliver a very clear and focused tone with plenty of body and detail. Volume-Volume-Tone controls work fine, just as expected.
Even the stock strings are good (D'Addario EXL165) In case that's not enough, this is a lightweight bass (3.7kg). Other highlights are:
Circle Fretting System (C.F.S.)
Slightly curved frets are mounted as each string and fret intersect at right angles to minimize the contact surface. You can obtain accurate pitch, cleaner longer sustain and true harmonics.
*The frets we use aren't special. You can ask your nearest repair shop to hit them from the edge of the fingerboard when refret.
Z Axis Deep Joint
By setting neck about 1mm deeper than conventional electric guitars, we succeed to reduce the distance between the strings and the body top without forcibly lowering the strings height
Compound Radius Fingerboard
Gradually increased fingerboard's radius achieves a good balance between chords grip on the lower frets and bending on the higher ones.
Expert Fret Edge
Finely finished fret and FUJIGEN craftsman's handmade fret edge contributes to much smoother fingering
