The Fender Mustang bass is a true classic within the Fender family of instruments. The short scale (30" instead of the 34" found in the Precision and Jazz Basses) makes it perfect for players with small hands as well as guitar players who want to experiment with the bass. At the same time, the short scale is perfect for regular bassists seeking a deeper and smoother sound. If you install a set of flatwounds you'll be in vintage mode immediately and you will be able to get the true sound from the 60's and 70's (particularly good for those upper neck basslines). The stock roundwound strings are perfect for standard sounds. The PJ pickup arrangement works particularly well in this bass and this is again thanks to the short scale. The split pickup is deep and solid, just what you'd expect from a good P Bass but with an extra smoothness to it. The bridge pickup adds deifinition but sounds fuller and more musical than the same pickup in many 34" scale basses. And finally when you use both pickups at the same time the sound is not as scooped as in long scale basses because here the pickups are closer together.
Hardware and finish are excellent too and the Pau Ferro fingerboard is just great. The Torino Red finish and 3 ply mint pickguard complete a vintage looking and sounding bass that plays like a dream and can deliver a lot of great tones. We love it!
