Fender have so much history creating musical instruments that every year there's something to cellebrate. In this case 2014 marks the 50th Anniversary of the 1964 P Bass which for many is THE P Bass. This instrument has been made with loving care by the team of craftsmen working at the Custom Shop division of the Fender factory in Corona, California.
The original Precision Bass was created by Fender in 1951 and it started a sonic revolution. That first take on the modern electric bass remained unchanged until 1957 when body contour, large headstock and split pickup were incorporated.
This is a big bass with a big sound. The rosewood board seems to tame down a little bit the sheer power that the big split pickup produces. The Tone control proves to be really effective and you can get a bright and guitar wall cutting sound with the tone all the way up and then get a much warmer type of sound just by rolling down the Tone pot a little bit.
To sum up: you get a bass that plays and sounds as close as possible to an original '64 P Bass except you will be the first owner and neither the neck, pickup or hardware will have any issues. The Heavy Relic finish over 3 Tone Sunburst is just gorgeous so you get the looks too!
