This is an incredible bass completely handmade by master luthier Jason Smith at the Fender Custom Shop division in Corona, California, USA.

Jason is the son of Fender R&D legend Dan Smith and he is faithfully following his dad's steps in the best possible manner. Jason got to know true rock legends when he was still a kid: Eric Clapton, Yngwie Malmsteen, Jeff Beck or Robben Ford to name but a few. He went to his first concert when he was 6 and got to see Rush live and remembers his dad meeting Geddy Lee after the show. Later on he got to see and meet Pink Floyd, ZZ top and many others. Rock and Fender are part of his DNA.

Jason joined the Fender Custom Shop in 1995 and in 2006 he completed a five year apprenticeship under acclaimed Senior Master Builder John English. All this has made it possible for Jason to design and built the most amazing Fender Custom Shop guitars and basses and the bass you see here is no exception.

As you can see it's a P Bass with PJ pickups and dual concentric (stacked) pots for Volume-Tone.

Only the best woods from the Fender shop have been used to build this bass from an incredibly lightweight and resonant piece of swamp ash for the body to a very solid and stable 3 piece reinforced maple for the neck and a gorgeous piece of the best quartersawn maple for the fingerboard.

This bass plays and feels incredible under your fingers. The narrow nut (just 38mm, Jazz Bass style) adds in terms of comfort and it really suits the PJ concept in our opinion.

Talking about the pickups, these are completely handwound and have been designed to pull out a very traditional and vintage tone but with enough clarity to cut through in any mix. the Split pickup is deep and has that elusive "throaty" quality to it. The bridge unit is of course more incisive and doesn't get as thin as other bridge pickups at all. Add to that the dual Volume/Tone for each pickup and you get a lot of cool tones under your fingers, all in a 100% passive and traditional type of instrument.

This is not just a perfect P Bass but also a true collector's item. Of course it comes with its hardcase, certificate and case candy.
