This is the Sandberg signature 4 string bass for Victor Brand, bassplayer for the metal band Dimmu Borgir and others.
It is based on a Forty Eight models but has some really cool appointments as required by Victor such as:
- Traditional Single Coil pickups in PJ arrangement
- Active-Passive electronics (3 band) with no noticeable boost in the signal when swtiching from one mode to another.
- Incredible Hardcore Relic job
- Victor's signature at the back of the headstock
- Glow in the dark side dots
The Forty Eight model is based on a classic design but it features some modern appointments and improvements that make it a winner.
This a big bass but it is lightweight and we love that.
Of course this instrument warranties a very strong stage presence but that's just the start. All the parts and workmanship are really good, from wood selection to construction, hardware, electronics and finish. We love it. The Hardcore Relic job is the best we've ever seen. Dings and scratches look absolutely real.
Apart from the poweful looks, the guys at Sandberg had in mind an instrument that would play effortlessly and that it had a very powerful tone. In passive mode the neck pickup sounds really warm and full. Add the bridge pickup to the mix and you get a very different tone that's more open and slightly hollow. The bridge pickup sounds fuller than usual, and that's something we just love. Of course the 3 band EQ adds more possibilitues when you need to add edge or punch to your sound.
To sum up: this is a bass that not only looks great on stage. It also delivers a monster tone and plays like butter.
