In 1991 Deviser (Japan) created Bacchus Guitar and bass brand, which at the time focused in producing copies of Gibson and Fender with incredible attention to detail. Also Bacchus offered their own designs. They made their own pickups and electronics too, something unusal for Japanese manufacturers. These electronics are really good quality. That's why most Bacchus users very rarely change the pickups of their instruments.
Wood is stored and dried naturally for the needed time, ensuring the stability of the necks, avoiding problems in the future.
In 2005 Bacchus ended their production of copies and concentrated on original designs.
Apart from their top end Japanese production, Bacchus also has a more affordable line of instruments called "Universe Series". Despite the low price tag, you get a lot for what you pay.
Bacchus Universe Series Jazz Bass Burl Top Blondeburst Active
This is is a traditional shaped bass that is obviously based on a Jazz Bass but with some cool appointments and an incredible attention to detail.
For starters we have a mahogany body instead of some cheaper timbers and then there's a 5 piece maple/rosewood neck. To top it all, there's a gorgeous Poplar Burl top that makes this bass simply irresistible.
But there's more: we get a bone nut, stacked J type pickups (completely noise free) and a very powerful active board with 3 bands of EQ that will let you dial in a very powerful sound or adapt the sound of the bass to your needs.
It is an easy to play bass and the mid weight body prevents the neck from diving in, a problem when the bass is too light. Traditional 34" scale and a narrow neck (38mm nut) complete with 19mm string spacing make this bass really comfortable to play.
To sum up, we think this is one of the best Super J Basses in the market today. Don't let the low price tag fool you. You get more thatn what you pay for, simple as that.
