Sire might be a relatively new name in the bass business but it has taken it by the storm. When bass legend Marcus Miller got onboard to help them design and fine tune these basses, a true Revolution took place. The whole idea was to produce entry level instruments that would offer features, sound and playability well beyond their price tag.
This is the Second Generation of Sire basses and we can honestly say these are now professional instruments with a really attractive price. Amazing value for money, actually. If the first Sire basses were a Revolution, new ones are the perfect Evolution.
Improvements over the original M7 (series 1) are: new and improved pickups, satin finish at the back of the neck, 9.5" radius (instead of 7.5"), Medium jumbo frets (instead of Small frets), Rolled fingerboard edges (we love that), ash wood battery cover (instead of plastic).
This is the top of the line modern design body Sire bass and it is named Marcus Miller M2 2nd Generation. It has a swamp ash body with a gorgeous flamed maple top. The neck has a two octave lined fretless ebony fingerboard.
Two Pure-H Marcus Miller humbuckers (made with US Enamel Coil) are used for noise free operation. These can be individually turned into Single Coils. Coupled with the excellent onboard 3 band preamp, this bass puts a lot of great sounds under your fingers.
The low B is really good for a bass. Perfect in volume and definition.
This bass comes with D'Addario flatwound strings and these fall halfway between a very realistic upright sound and a beautiful "mwah" factor. If you want to get more "mwah", simply install a set of roundwound strings and you are good to go. The ebony fingerboard will withstand the wear and tear of any type of string just as it happens on double basses, cellos and violins.
You can see the highlights of this really amazing bass in the last picture.
