This is a 100% German Made Sandberg TM5 bass in beautiful Soft Aged Creme finish.
This German brand has been producing fine basses for quite some years, including models from 4 to 7 strings, solid or semihollow, fretted or fretless, with a wide choice of pickups and electronics.
This bass is a California TM5 model, which is the term that Sandberg use for their Fender style basses. JM means Jazz and Musicman style pickups. The bridge humbucker can be split with a miniswitch, so you get the best of both worlds. The active/passive 2 band preamp has enough power to adapt the bass to a number of situations.
Switching to passive converts the High EQ into a Passive Tone control that works only from the middle click downwards. Very smart and effective.
SOUNDS: Using both pickups in passive mode you get an excellent vintage Jazz Bass Sound. Soloing the bridge pickup and using the Tone control gets you a convincing Jaco Tone. Switch to active, slightly boost the lows and you get a great Super Jazz Marcus type of sound. Using the bridge pickup on its own in humbucker mode you get a convincing Musicman Stingray tone. Then you can also blend bocth pickups while keeping the bridge unit iun humbucker to get a modern percussive sound or solo the neck pickup for a great P Bass sound.
The Low B is remarkably full sounding and it lacks no definition at all. This is great news coming from an ultra comfortable 34" scale bass.
Oh yes, and it is also surprisingly lightweight. What's not to love?
