This Sandberg California TM4 is a classic looking instrument with some modern specs and features.
It has been designed for players who need a really versatile and powerful bass and can be used for hours without fatigue (it is really lighteight and balanced). Classic body and neck dimensions (38mm nut) make this a really comfortable bass to play. Finish is absolutely perfect and that's something we've come to expect from these great 100% German made instruments.
This bass in particular comes with the new and improved Sandberg + pickups as well as Darkglass Tone Capsule electronics. Wow, that's a winning combination.
We dig the Single + Humbucker arrangement. The humbucker can be split for Single Coil operation son the number of great sounds avaialbe is just amazing.
As you know, Darkglass make great preamps, compressors and overdrive pedals for bass (we are huge fans and always have them in stock) so we are not surprised that their onboard electronics are just as good. Instead of following other brands' designs, Darkglass have come up with their own design and have chosen to include 3 bands but instead of your usual Bass, Mid and Treble, they have opted for Low, Low Mid and High Mid. This proves to be great as the High control in most bass electronics is far too trebly and noisy. Frecuencies have been very well chosen. You get Bass at 70Hz (deepier and less muddy), Low Mid at 500Hz (cut for ultra scooped modern sound and boost for extremely musical growly midrange) and High Mid at 2.8kz (high enough if you want to boost the treble but also very similar to a passive tone when you cut it). We love it. To sum up: a lightweight , comfortable, powerful and ultraversatile bass.
This bass has a 35" neck. This is responsible for the amazing punch in the lowest notes. Of course this is also particularly suited for Drop tuning and alternate tunings. You can even set it for BEDG with the correct strings, meaning you get the same low notes as a 5 string but with a comfortable 4 string neck.
Oh, yeah, and it looks just gorgeous thanks to the San Remo blue finish.
