The sound remains remarkably flat with all the controls set in the middle. The 4 band EQ is very musical and will let you modifiy the sound of the amp to match the acoustics of the room without altering the sound of your instrument significantly. The Bottom pot takes care of all the low and low mid spectrum. The Presence does the same in the High register and the Contour progressively removes the Mids and adds Bass & Treble for a scooped type of sound.
