This is the most recent version of the successful Votan model by Marleaux, the Votan XS, sporting a set of great Delano JSBC humbuckers in single coil size that actually sound like single coils. Amazing punch and clarity reminiscent of a 70's bass. The sound is addictive in Passive mode and the Tone control lets you dial in that Jaco sound easily. In active mode you get a great sounding 2 band preamp, proving that's all you need to get a lot of great sounds. Even more surprising is the fact that it sounds like a 4 string but with a great low B (one of the best we've tried in ANY 34" scale bass). You won't find a bass out there that give you so much for so little money. It comes with a pickguard but you have the option of installing it or not (no holes on the body in case you don't want to put it).
