To further illustrate this bass, we have included a short report of our visit to the Fender factory in Corona, USA, in 2008. We were able to see the building process and met several big names at the Fender Custom Shop Division. Some of the old machines that were used 60 years ago to make instruments are still there (some still active). When you visit the factory and meet the staff you realize that only Fender can make perfect replicas of those mucho loved instruments from the 50’s and 60’s. Some people there have been working at Fender for more than 50 years, like pickup guru Abigail Ybarra.
You could still shop for an original bass, pay much more, and get a bass with neck or electronics problems. This is why we love Fender Custom Shop basses. You get the same feel, touch, look and sound than the originals, but none of the problems.
This is a funny video that pays homage to Abigail Ybarra.

70’s Fender Jazz Bass
This Fender ’70s Jazz Bass captures the essence of the decade, defined by striking cosmetics and a bright, full sound.
The ’70s saw the repositioning of the bridge pickup closer to the bridge, creating a brighter tone that cut through mixes more. The biggest cosmetic upgrade came in the form of gorgeous block inlays and neck binding, which are highly sought after by many bassists. The bullet truss rod completes the look. Seventies-era Jazz Bass guitars are widely regarded as the basses built for funk. The offset waist, ultra-slim neck and vintage-style alnico magnet Jazz Bass single-coil pickups all make this bass very comfortable and familiar.
We’ll include this bass in our website in a few days.
This bass is produced at the Fender factory in Ensenada, Mexico. They were actually making the first units when we visited them in 2008, so here’s a brief report:
